Teacher Training
Year 1 & 2 Course Dates from September 2024
The Essential Christian Teacher aims to help teachers define what it means to be a genuinely Christian practitioner in the community of a Christian school of the type that are members of the Christian Schools’ Trust.
Teachers on the course do not have to be qualified teachers but will need the opportunity to apply what they learn in their classrooms on a regular basis. If you have a teaching degree and experience, then this course will refine your practice; If you are a new, young, or inexperienced teacher, then this course will help lay vital foundations in your understanding and practice.
The course helps teachers to focus on key aspects of their own development as distinctively Christian teachers and will focus on their contributions to the Christian learning community, and their school.
The course requires teachers to be released from their schools for two days a year and the other three sessions are online for year one students. For year two students, sessions 6-9 are online with session 10 being a face-to-face meeting.
Students’ Testimonies
‘This is the part that stuck out to me most from this session. Our aim as Christian teachers is not just to give children knowledge on subjects like Maths and English. It is to impart God’s wisdom into their life, encourage them to wrestle with worldviews, help them understand the biblical view and for me to get to know them and understand them as more than just a grade at the end of the year.’
‘Generational transfer – So important, but hard to do in a world where the Christian viewpoint is sometimes considered as ‘wrong’ in society. I need confidence to be a Christian and pass down God’s teaching in today’s world’.
‘I found the section about classroom management really helpful, and I am trying to put these things into practice. Looking forward to going into this topic deeper and develop my skills in this area – it is the topic I have been discussing with my mentor’.
‘It was an encouragement to look to Jesus as a role model as he is our ultimate teacher and the one we can learn from’.
‘Helpful to get some tips about integrating faith into teaching and how to utilise time in a very busy curriculum’.
‘Today has been very inspiring and has had me thinking out of the box of how I can integrate faith learning in all aspects of my Teaching’.
‘I think it’s important to think about how different it looks to teach when you are teaching from a Christian starting point. You have a God focus and you’re using what God has taught you and instilled into your life to help students not just academically but spiritually and emotionally’.
